Lofty Spring Bedroom

It is spring again in the Northern Hemisphere, so  I decided to start this season with a spring coloured bedroom.
My source of inspiration for this moodboard came from two different worlds. The first has its source in the movie Frances Ha (check it out here) that is the story of a young girl starting her adult life. At one point she co-habits a New York apartment with two guys (including Kylo Ren, haha), naturally she has a (messy) room on her own (check the photo here and here for a better look at the windows). As you see, it is quite simple, but has a lovely whitewashed brick wall. The film itself is only a few years old, yet it is black and white, so the colours are somewhat up to you to decide. And I decided that a spring colour palette would suit Frances.
It also means my other source of inspiration came from a lovely sunny spring field with flowers, red poppies, bright green grass, and also cows chewing on the grass... so I imported all of it to this bedroom.
Including the cows.
Poppy reds and lively greens are in sharp contrast with the cowhide rug and cushion. Not a usual combination, but it works well in a hip and urban environment. Cowhide also provides texture as opposed to the smooth surfaces of the bed and the shelves.
The square shape of the bed is taken up to the wall, these Muuto cubes can be arranged in many ways, adding a playful twist yet sensible storage space to any interior. As for storage - the slats of the bed can be lifted up, revealing ample space beneath - it comes handy in any bedroom.
I want to talk about the fun floor lamps on the left. They are way too pricey, really, but also very tricky. They twist and turn at the joints without conflicting the wiring. Very clever. Originally designed in the 1950s, they look fantastic in industrial interiors. Find them here
This is the kind of room I could imagine for Frances Ha - should she ever have the money for decent furniture.

Sweet November

I am not referring to that bittersweet movie, I just want to add a bit of sparkle to this freezing month. If you want to dress your home for the festive season, do not forget your bedroom! Should you have a colour scheme based on cool hues, you can always try playing with shiny materials and gold. It works well with walnut furniture seen in this moodboard.

How to decorate a Dorm Room?

Autumn means back to school to students. Below you can find a moodboard about how to style a dorm room. I would say it is an unisex style, the black goes well with the bright colours, that are youthful, but gender-neutral. It is a practical and more mature environment, with a bit of colour to make it cheerful.
For a dorm room - depending on the space you have got - furniture with function and storage come handy. Colourful box shelves provide space to your things (you can put thing on and inside), and the desk is especially good, with open-up storage and integrated sound system.
I would definitely recommend even a small pin-up board to put memos and photos on.

Pastels in the Bedroom

It has been quite rainy in the past week, and although it is June, I have not seen much of summer yet. This is the time when students take their school leaving exams - in my country school ends around mid-June - and I remember that my first days after my exams were always spent with reading a good book (especially that the weather was unpredictable and rainy). One of my favourites were crime stories that my father had a good collection of, mostly by authors active in the 60s and 70s. I remember one particular novel set in France in the early 60s, where the herione drove through France down until the South coast with criminals in her pursuit. I can still see myself, lying on the bed, book in my hand, not caring about the rain outside, totally immersed in the plot, and in my mind the sea shore in South France was also cool, cloudy and deserted.... just like in that photo above.
To make a long story short, as you see, anything can be inspirational, and sometimes inspiration comes from the most unexpected places.
Moodboard

This bedroom is a sanctuary, the perfect place to sleep, relax, and read books. The colour scheme I chose reflects the photo - calming greys and light blues, sandy colours and a bit of rich brown. Dark blue accents make the room look more alive. For a touch of luxury you can also place armchairs in the bedroom if you have space. And now... relax!
Anyway, the book is titled 'The Lady in the Car with Glasses and a Gun' written by Sébastien Japrisot.
